Detroit erased a twenty-two-point second-half deficit to beat Boston one hundred twenty-one to one hundred thirteen in the NBA season opener. Paul George scored thirty-eight points, a Celtics record for a franchise debut, but Detroit finished with a sixty-two to twenty-seven run over seventeen minutes. The Pistons turned Boston's fast start into a major opening-night comeback.

Mikko Rantanen completed his hat trick with a power-play goal in overtime as Dallas beat Boston three to two. The Stars tied the game late in the third period before Rantanen won it at three minutes, fifty-two seconds of overtime. Dallas stopped Boston's five-game winning streak and earned its third straight win.

San Jose came back from two goals down in the third period and beat Montreal four to three in overtime. Macklin Celebrini scored twice, including the power-play winner at two minutes, thirteen seconds of overtime, and added an assist. The Sharks recovered after losing their previous two games and turned a three to one deficit into a road win.
