An Associated Press review found documents supporting the claim that Phillip James, detained in Indiana, was born in Florida and has been held by ICE since January. His lawyers are challenging an immigration judge's deportation order. Homeland Security disputes that he is a U.S. citizen and says his birth certificate was fraudulent, but did not provide evidence to AP. Records reviewed by AP include a 1988 paternity case and passports issued in 2008 and 2023. The case remains in court.

Federal Reserve officials begin their October 27 through 28 meeting as investors look for clues about interest rates and inflation. AP reports policymakers are widely expected to leave the key rate near 3.9 percent unchanged Wednesday, even after inflation ran hotter than expected for two months. Mortgage rates recently reached 7.4 percent before easing to 7.32 percent, adding pressure to household budgets. Chairman Kevin Warsh's comments and any dissenting votes will be watched closely. An unexpected rate increase is considered unlikely, not impossible.

Jay-Z will headline the Super Bowl halftime show on February 14 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, the NFL, Apple Music and Roc Nation announced. The rapper's company has advised the NFL on entertainment presentations since 2019, but he had not previously performed at the halftime show. Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, has won 25 Grammy Awards. Roc Nation will executive produce the show, with Hamish Hamilton directing. The announcement follows Jay-Z's recent 30th-anniversary concerts for his debut album, Reasonable Doubt.
