President Donald Trump has repeatedly suggested that states represented by Republicans would be more likely to receive federal help, while criticizing Democratic candidates in key midterm races. The Associated Press reports he linked future Camp Lejeune settlements, hurricane recovery money and year-round E fifteen fuel sales to election outcomes or Republican officeholders. The White House said Trump wants to keep a Republican majority so he can continue his agenda. Democratic candidates and advocates criticized the remarks, while the administration said it was outlining policy differences.

The average U.S. rate on a thirty-year fixed mortgage fell for a second straight week to seven point two four percent, Freddie Mac said Thursday. That is down from seven point three two percent a week earlier, but still above six point one seven percent a year ago. AP reports the recent easing follows a rise to about seven point four percent earlier this month, while higher borrowing costs continue to limit many buyers' purchasing power. For a four-hundred-thousand-dollar loan, the rate increase since late February adds roughly three hundred fifty dollars to the monthly payment.

Two crime dramas arrive on U.S. streaming services Friday. Apple TV releases the first two episodes of Nocturne, starring Liev Schreiber as a former soldier and homicide detective who moves from Philadelphia to a small Pennsylvania town. Paramount Plus begins season two of Dexter: Resurrection, with Michael C. Hall returning as Dexter Morgan in New York. AP's weekly streaming guide says Nocturne is based on Lars Kepler novels, while the new Dexter season adds Dan Stevens and Brian Cox to the cast.
