Vice President JD Vance faced sharp questions from voters during a CBS News town hall that aired Saturday. The husband of a United States soldier killed in an Iranian drone strike in Kuwait asked about leadership and accountability. Vance said he had not heard of the death before, then acknowledged mistakes over troop locations. Other voters pressed him on gasoline prices, immigration enforcement and data centers. Vance said the administration was working to lower fuel costs and called immigration policy a work in progress.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio left Washington for Uzbekistan and India on his thirty-first overseas trip in the job. The State Department says the visit is meant to strengthen United States economic and security ties with Central and South Asia. Some former diplomats question whether Rubio is spending enough visible time on the Iran war, Gaza and Russia's war in Ukraine. The department says he is involved in strategy discussions, while special envoys have publicly led several major crises.
