President Donald Trump signed an executive order on October nineteenth creating a Women’s Health Division at the National Institutes of Health and a White House task force. The plan, pushed by first lady Melania Trump, calls for more research into maternal health, mental health, endometriosis, infertility, fibroids, menopause, heart disease, and other conditions. The order does not set specific funding goals. It replaces a Biden-era women’s health initiative while the White House says the new structure will coordinate work across federal agencies.

At a Kansas rally on October nineteenth, President Donald Trump urged support before the midterm elections as farmers described pressure from higher diesel costs, unpredictable markets, and smaller profits. The Kansas Farm Bureau said diesel was more than two dollars and fifty cents per gallon higher than a year earlier. Republican leaders worry that tariffs, labor concerns, and tight finances could weaken turnout in agricultural states. Trump is scheduled to campaign in Iowa later this week.

Richard Riehle, the longtime character actor remembered by many viewers as Tom Smykowski in Office Space, has died at seventy-eight. Wright Entertainment said on October nineteenth that Riehle died October fifteenth but did not disclose a cause or other details. His nearly five-decade career included roles in Glory, The Fugitive, Bridesmaids, The West Wing, and three Star Trek series, plus Broadway appearances. Riehle often played authority figures, but his comic work made him a familiar face in movies and television.
